BRIEF ITINERARY

Day 1 – Arrival Day at Paro
The flight to Paro is one of the most spectacular air journeys in the world, with a constantly changing panorama of some of the highest mountains on earth. Our representative will be waiting for you on your arrival and will take you to the group hotel. Enjoy an afternoon of sightseeing in and around Paro including a visit to the National Museum 

Day 2 - From Paro to Thimphu
Today we travel to the nation’s capital, Thimphu. The road is spectacular and winds alongside emerald-green rivers and offers spectacular views of the surrounding mountains. Once rriving to the Kuensel Phodrang, the gigantic statue of Lord Buddha,we will walk the narrow paths to Changangkha Lhakhang, the oldest temple in the Thimphu Valley. After lunch we will visit the Royal Takin Preserve and then we will start the Wangditse Hike that offers great amphitheatric views over the capital. In the afternoon, we can opt visiting the National Textile Museum or/and the Centenary Farmers Food Market

Day 3 - Trek in the hills around Thimphu
This will be our first proper hike into Bhutanese nature, a long but spectacular hike up to Phajoding monastery via Pumola Gompa reaching 3650m of altitude and coming back down to Thimphu for the night.

Day 4 - From Thimphu to Punakha
We start the day by driving up to TashigangGonpa, at 3700m, where we will begin our hiketo Lungchutse Monastery. The hike goes through forest containing moss-covered rhododendron the size of trees, giant hemlock and juniper and is one of the most rejuvenating and picturesque walking courses in the region. The 360-degree view of some of the highest mountain peaks in the world, including Gangkhar Puensum (7520 m), Jumolhari (7314m) and Masang Gang ((7150m), is guaranteed to take your breath away. From Dochu La pass we mount our bikes all the way to Punakha passing through mountain villages getting a glimpse of everyday life in this most remote of Himalayan kingdoms.

Day 5 - Punakha
A full day exploring the wonderful Punakha area on foot and by private vehicle. We start the day following the Giligang trail, walking through traditional farmland and paddy-fields to Kamsum Yulley Namgyel Chorten. The route passes via the 300-year-old Giligang Temple and finishes at the magnificent Punakha Dzong. After lunch, we will head to the serene Sangchhen Dorji Lhuendrup Nunnery, where we can enjoy views of the valley and meet some of the nuns.

Day 6 – From Punakha to Phobjikha valley
After breakfast we will head to the very special place of Chimi Lhakhang, also known as the fertility temple. The surrounding buildings are adorned with the images of colorful erectile penises. These are a feature throughout Bhutan, but nowhere are they quite as prevalent and graphic as here! After our visit, we drive on a spectacular road by private vehicle that crosses Lawa-la Pass and once reaching the Gangtey Gonpa monastery we walk on a stunning nature trail across the Phobjikha Valley-floor and through the valley's villages observing the everyday life. At 3000 metres, Phobjihka is an incredibly beautiful (and incredibly green) grassy plain that must be seen to be believed.

Day 7 - From Phobjikha valley to Thimphu
We start the day in the beautiful and peaceful Phobjika Valley. The air is clean and fresh and there is an abundance of wildlife to keep an eye out for. We are in an area where the elusive clouded leopard lives and we might catch a glimpse of the majestic, black-necked crane coming into land. After a hearty breakfast, we can make a short visit to the nearby Crane Information Centre and learn a little about the conservation efforts being carried out in the area.
From here, we will drive directly back to Thimphu from where we will begin our afternoon hike to the incredible Dodedrak Monastery where we will spent our night.

Day 8 – From Thimphu to Haa valley
This morning we have a chance to join the monks for the early morning prayer ceremony and meditation. After a monastic breakfast, we begin our walk back down towards the Thimphu valley-floor where our private vehicle will be waiting to drive us towards the Haa Valley, one of the most picturesque places in Bhutan. On arrival in Haa, we will visit the beautiful and historic Lhakhang Karpo, or White Chapel, which is the official residence of the Haa monastic body. This evening we will stay at a traditional farmhouse, enjoy dinner, and perhaps even try our hand at cooking with the family that lives there!

Day 9 - From Haa valley to Paro
Roughly midway between Haa and Paro lies the Cheli-la Pass. From here we hike up a little further to around 4000 metres, before descending on open paths and through forest to the ancient Kila Nunnery. After returning to Cheli-la Pass, we mount our bikes and roll effortlessly all the way to our hotel in Paro, passing through pine forests and mountain villages on quiet, picturesque roads.

Day 10 - Paro
After an early breakfast, we will begin our early hike to the world-famous Taktsang Lhakhang."Tiger’s Nest”temple is one of the most holy sites in the kingdom and clings impossibly to a sheer cliff face 900 hundred metres above the Paro Valley. After lunch we drive back into Paro to visit the historic Kyichu Lhakhang. We can also enjoy some free time in the town to do some final souvenir shopping, before returning to our hotel for one last feast with our fellow group members.

Day 11 - Departure Day
Our 10 days adventure is ending today after breakfast. 
A guide and driver will take you the short distance to the airport.
