BRIEF ITINERARY

Day 1 – Arrival Day
We will meet at the Pension Gerasimos (next to Perfect Ten tavern) in Marathias in the south-west of Kerkyra, where we will be shown to our rooms/apartments/studios.
Note: A free of charge mini-bus group transfer may be provided, depending on the arrival times and locations of the participants.

Day 2 - Walking with a bird specialist next to a unique ecosystem and biggest lake of Corfu
The start of the week will find us walking along the long sandy stretch of beach in the south-west of the island. Walking along the coast, we will reach the sand dunes of Issos. With us, an expert in bird life and Corfiot fauna will introduce us to the rich biodiversity where it is possible to see flamingos, egrets, and many other migratory birds. We will explore these natural habitats and talk about the unique ecosystem we visit. From the sand dunes we will walk adjacent to the Korrision lagoon and its inhabitants. At the end of our excursion, we will reach Chalikounas beach where a mini-bus will transfer us back to Marathias.

Day 3 - Visit the Salt pans of the south and walk via Gardeno valley to Marathias
We will visit the salt pans of the south by foot.This is a place closely connected to the modern history of the island when men were producing salt as their main source of living. Now it has become a wildlife sanctuary where many migratory birds use it as a feeding or resting place. Afterwards we will walk via the traditional village of Lefkimmi and Gardeno valley back to the west coast and our accommodation.

Day 4 - Walking from Gardiki castle to Agios Mathias and enjoy an Olive tour
We drive to Gardiki castle. We walk up to the 3rd highest peak of the island following a shaded, ascending footpath. Once in the village we go to visit a high quality olive press to indulge in the history of olives, the importance of the olive tree for Greeks and understand the process that creates this emerald green, flavoursome liquid.
A mini-bus will pick us up and transfer us to our accommodation.

Day 5 - Greek cooking session with Maria and transfer to the North of the island and our next accommodation
We cook our lunch with our hostess Maria and learn the secrets of Greek cuisine! What will it be? The famous moussaka? The yummy stuffed tomatoes and peppers? Maybe some crispy pies? Or something completely new?! 
After we have enjoyed the fruit of our efforts, we will get on board a mini-bus and be transferred to the other end of the island, Agios Georgios of Pagi bay, where our next accommodation is located. 

Day 6 – Visit the convent of Agios Athanasios and walk to the traditional village of Sokraki 
Transfer by mini-bus to Agios Athanasios we start our day with a visit to the convent dedicated to Jesus Christ. This is an excellent place to investigate the realm of a convent and be introduced to monastic life. Afterwards we will start walking via dirt tracks to the Rekini crossroad, where we enter the western slopes of the mountain Pantokrator. We will start gaining altitude by walking under the tree arches and via the lime stoned footpaths, reaching the village of Vallanio. We then follow the dirt tracks along the olive groves towards the footpaths which will guide us to Sokraki village. 
A mini-bus will pick us up and transfer us to our accommodation.

Day 7 - Visit the abandoned monastery of Askitario and walk to Platonas village via the Nymfes valley with an herbalist
Transfer by mini-bus to the start of our day at the village of Nymfes. We visit the abandoned monastery of Askitario and the cave of a hermit where the herbalist will introduce us to the magic worlds of the medicinal herbs and their traditional uses in Corfiot history. On the final section of our day, we will make our way down the slopes of the valleyand through the footpaths to Platonas village. A mini-bus will pick us up and transfer us to our accommodation.

Day 8 – Departure Day
After breakfast our adventure ends.
